I’m so excited to share some news. queerdavis.org is officially forming a coalition of queer creatives, and I want you to be a part of it.
Hey there, Davis!
If you’ve spent any time wandering our tree-lined streets or walking the arboretum, you know that Davis is a pretty special place. It’s a town of innovation, art, and community. But as someone who just moved to this city, I’ve also felt that there’s a missing piece to a vibrant puzzle. We have incredible nature, amazing coffee shops, and a thriving academic scene, but I’ve been searching for a centralized space that truly celebrates and enriches the lives of the queer community here.
Let’s Build Something Beautiful: Calling All Queer Creatives in Davis!
Why We Need This
For a long time, I’ve felt that our stories, our art, and our voices deserve a dedicated platform. Sure, we have social media groups and occasional events, but what if we had a living, breathing space designed specifically to uplift the queer experience in Davis?
The mission of QUEERdavis.org is simple but ambitious: to create a platform that doesn’t just exist, but actively enriches our lives. We want to build a digital and physical community that fosters connection, creativity, and visibility. We want to make it easier to find queer-friendly businesses, to celebrate local artists, and to feel a deep sense of belonging right here in our hometown.
What We’re Looking For
This isn’t just a project I’m building alone; it’s a collaborative effort. A coalition is only as strong as its members, and I believe the magic of Davis lies in its diverse and talented people. We are looking to bring together a wide range of voices and skills.
Here are some of the creative roles we’re looking to fill in our coalition:
Writers & Poets:
To share personal essays, reviews of local queer-friendly spots, poetry that captures the Davis vibe, and interviews with community members.
Visual Artists & Designers:
To create stunning graphics, illustrations, and photography that represent the full spectrum of our community. Your art will be the visual heartbeat of the platform.
Musicians & Performers:
To have your work featured, to potentially play at community events we host, and to share the sounds that define your queer experience in Davis.
Event Planners & Organizers:
To help us dream up and execute everything from intimate art showcases and open mic nights to larger community gatherings and mixers.
Community Advocates & Connectors:
If you’re well-connected and passionate about building bridges, we need you to help us partner with local businesses, student organizations, and other community groups.
How You Can Contribute
The beauty of a coalition is that everyone brings something unique to the table. You don’t have to be a “professional” artist to contribute to QueerDavis.org. You just have to be passionate and want to be a part of something special.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Share Your Work:
Submit your writing, art, or music for consideration on the platform. We want to showcase the talent that’s right here in our city.
Join the Team:
If you have skills in writing, design, social media, or event planning, we’d love to have you join our core team to help shape the direction of queerdavis.org.
Spread the Word:
The easiest way to help is to share this post! Tell your friends, your roommates, and your fellow creatives. The more people we reach, the stronger our coalition will be.
Offer Your Ideas:
What do you want to see in a queer platform for Davis? What events would you attend? What stories need to be told? Send us your thoughts and help us build a space that truly serves you.
The Vision for a Queer Davis
Imagine a Davis where you can easily find a list of queer-owned cafes to study in, where local artists are celebrated monthly, and where there’s always an event to look forward to. Imagine a space where you can share your story and know it will be seen and valued. That is the hope for QueerDavis.org
That’s the future I want to build with queerdavis.org, and I can’t do it alone. This is our chance to create a vibrant, supportive, and creative home for the queer community in Davis.
If you’re a creative who wants to contribute, or just someone who’s excited about this idea, I want to hear from you.
Let’s build something beautiful together.
